Mistake in letter leads parents to believe real gun brought to school

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nettie Marshall Elementary Student is suspended from school for three days after he was found toting a toy gun in his backpack. But some parents have the impression the child was caught with a real gun. That's because principal Shelton Jones inadvertently left the word "toy" off the notification letter sent to parents on Friday. Bringing a toy gun to school is a serious district violation, but it's not against the law like bringing a real gun to school. Jones said, "It is serious and we take every situation like this serious. As soon as my staff was notified we went into our process we have for that and everything was handled perfectly. One parent, thinking a real gun was found, actually withdrew her kindergartner from Nettie Marshall."
