Freedom Fighters: Edgar Terrell

Updated:

It's been over sixty years since Edgar Terrell last wore his Naval uniform, years in which he finished his education, married, raised a family and pastored churches in Oklahoma and Texas.

But from 1943 through 1945, Terrell was defending his country aboard the destroyer escort the U.S.S. Herbert C. Jones. The Jones saved many lives protecting troop ships from German glider bombs. Terrell 's ship also took part in the invasion of Anzio and the invasion of Southern France.

Terrell jokes that he beat the Germans and then took on the Japanese when he was assigned to the troop carrier the U. S.S.Grundy. The Grundy brought the first American troops home from the Pacific when the war ended.
