LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A routine traffic stop for a seatbelt violation turned into a lot more on Wednesday for the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

Robert Charles Mitchell was stopped for not wearing his seatbelt, and when the officer asked to search his car after smelling marijuana, he uncovered more than half a pound of cocaine in the console.

The sheriff's office narcotics division estimates the drugs are worth around thirty thousand dollars. Mitchell was arrested and charged with possesion of a controlled substance, a first degree fellony.
