Holiday Burglary

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - During the holiday season the number of property crimes tends to increase, but the Lufkin Police Department says these crimes can be avoided.

Because there are so many more people out shopping there are many more opportunities available to criminals. Lieutenant David Young encourages East Texans to practice good crime prevention, especially during the holiday season.

"When you go shopping don't leave those articles where they're visible in the car, and by all means, don't leave that purse or wallet where it is visible in the car" says Lt. Young. "Take those things out that you don't need to carry in your purse or wallet; don't carry your social security cards, things like that. Don't be a good target".

Some other tips to remember: take valuable purchases back to the house before returning to shop, and don't park in a secluded area. And when you're not at home, close curtains to cover decorated christmas trees.
