Lufkin, TX (KTRE) - The sights and sounds of Christmas filled the air in downtown Lufkin Tuesday night as the annual Christmas Parade wound its way through.
Sleigh bells were ringing, car horns were honking, people were singing amid the sea of Christmas lights and decorations. It was the perfect way for local residents to get into the Christmas spirit.
The weather was good, a little windy, but just enough to make people bundle up and think about the holiday season. The parade's theme was "The Songs of Christmas." Floats, bands, schools and several community organizations participated.
Laughter rang out throughout the crowd. One smiling parade watcher was heard to say, "I think it's a wonderful thing to get everybody down here to get together just to have a nice little Christmas peaceful evening."
Main Street Director Barbara Thompson said, "Pulling the parade together is stressful, but once the parade begins all of that stress turns to adrenaline. I'm very excited this year it turned out really, really well. We're already planning for next year. We want it to be bigger than ever."
Thompson went on to thank everyone who helped and participated in the parade. There were over 160 floats entered in the parade this year, about 60 more than last year. The winners of this year's parade are:
Best Commercial Float:
1st Home Depot
2nd Southland Healthcare
3rd Region's Bank
Best Non-Commercial Float:
1st City of Lufkin Waste Water Treatment Plant
2nd City of Lufkin Water and Sewer Plant
3rd Disabled American Veterans Junior Auxiliary
