Local man indicted for injury to a child charges

by Donna McCollum

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A grandfather waited nervously for hours this morning for a Nacogdoches County grand jury to make a decision on an event that changed his family's life forever.

Today the man accused of killing his granddaughter was indicted for injury to a child.

Mark Wayne Cole learned today from his jail cell that he'll be facing prosecution for the death of 22-month-old Savannah Carter. District Attorney Stephanie Stephens submitted court documents today asking that Cole's court date be set this year. Cole remains in jail with a 100-thousand dollar bond. The D.A. is likely to ask for an increase on that bond amount.

Savannah Carter was left in Cole's care last month. The child was either shaken or hit, and she later died at a Dallas hospital where she had been lifeflighted.
