Autopsy Results: Two unrelated deaths ruled suicides

Lufkin, TX (KTRE) -Autopsy reports are just back in the death of Samuel Pirtle and Tyrone Underwood, two unrelated unsolved deaths being investigated by the Lufkin Police Department.

Police Lieutenant David Young tells KTRE's East Texas News autopsy results show Pirtle died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.  Officers found the body of an adult male in a wooded area off Henderson Street on November 3rd.  The body was believed to be that of 41-year old Samuel Pirtle, who had been missing for more than a week.  Officers had been searching the wooded area for Pirtle when the body was found.  Those woods are near Pirtle's home.  A gun was found near the body.  Autopsy results released today indicate the cause of death was suicide.

In a different case, police say autopsy results indicate 41-year old Underwood died from injuries he received in an apparent suicide after falling from a hotel window.  Police were called to the Hampton Inn, off Highway 59 south of Lufkin last month.  There they found Underwood lying on the ground, severely injured.  He later died at a local hospital.
