EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas for many parts of East Texas as big fat snowflakes tumbled from the sky.

KTRE's weather watcher in Trinity County reported two inches of snow in just a couple of hours on Wednesday afternoon.  Overnight, we received reports from weather watchers of snow, sleet mixed with rain, and just cold rain throughout the KTRE viewing area.

The National Weather Service says Beaumont has received two inches of snow -- and that's a record.

Forecaster Sam Shamburger says that much snow is the highest amount recorded in Beaumont for the month of December. He also says it's the earliest measurable snowfall recorded in Beaumont. The previous record was Dec. 22, 1989.

Port Arthur police report at least four bridges were closed early today due to the cold front that brought along flurries.

Houston received its first snow since Christmas Eve of 2004, leading to some travel delays.

Your East Texas Weather forecast calls for clearing skies today with temperatures warming into the 50ies.

KTRE Chief Meteorologist Conley Isom says with high pressure moving in, temperatures Friday morning should drop back into the 20ies area wide.  Keep up with the latest weather conditions on the weather page at ktre.com and on KTRE's East Texas News.
