Pineywoods to be a Tourist and Retiree Attraction

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin has been making efforts to market itself as a tourist and retiree destination.

The Conservation Fund of East Texas has developed a plan that is designed to attract those groups to all of Angelina County. It's called the Green Infrastructure Plan. According Richard Donovan, the Director of the Texas Conservation Alliance, it will allow the Pineywood's natural and recreational assests to become a premier outdoor destination for visitors.

"What we hope to do with the Green Infrastructure Plan is to, as time permits, link these cities together and the beautiful areas in these cities together in between them, with hiking trails and biking trails and try to preserve trees and greenery along these pathways", says Donovan

Not only would the The Green Infrastructure connect cities within Angelina County such as Diboll, Zavalla, Lufkin and Nacogdoches with these trails, but it is also expected to boost the revenue coming in to Angelina County.
