Local fire department receives thousands in Homeland Security Assistance

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Texas' senior Senator, today announced $452,154 in U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grants for Texas firefighters to improve overall preparedness and first response capabilities. 

"These grants will provide our firefighters and first responders with the resources they need to save lives," Sen. Hutchison said.  "The funding will help these brave men and women better prepare for and respond to emergency situations in our communities."

According to DHS, the funding can be used to purchase vehicles, train and equip firefighters, and provide health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
