There's a Road Bump in Plans to Finish 59 Construction

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Txdot announced this week that, weather permitting, they'd be able to open the Whitehouse/Daniel McCall Bridge next week, just in time for Christmas.

Well, the weather didn't permit. The rain that has been hanging over Lufkin all week, has forced TXDot to change its plans. Now what might have been an early present for local drivers looks like it's out of the question. Kathi White explained to KTRE the mission of TXDot as it concerns the 59 Construction.

"Basically what we're trying to do at this point is get the main lanes of the Whitehouse/ Daniel McCall Bridge open to the traveling public and we were hoping to do that by Monday, but given the weather situation with the continuous drizzle and just the moisture, it's impossible for us to get in there and the final touches done to that. So it's kind of doubtful we'll get it open for Monday", said White.

The U.S. 59 project will shut down on Christmas Eve, and will re-open January 7th. However, TXDot reminds drivers that even though workers will not be out, to continue to be aware of traffic control devices.
