Fatal Auto - Pedestrian

News Release:

Lufkin, TX - Lufkin Police are investigating an auto-pedestrian accident that left an Angelina County man dead Monday night.  At 10:55p.m. William A. Gilliland. 49, was struck and killed in the 3000 Block of E. Denman (Hwy. 69) when he apparently stopped and got out of his vehicle to remove some debris from the road.  It's believed the debris may have blown out of his pickup.  Gilliland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gilliland had parked his pickup in the center turn lane and was standing near the center of the two southbound lanes when he was stuck by a 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Yvonne Sides of Lufkin.  Neither Sides nor the two child passengers (ages 10 and 6) in her vehicle were injured.  No charges have been filed in the accident and none are expected to be filed.
