Save Energy During the Winter Months

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - East Texas weather has been pretty fickle lately, but one thing is certain. People wouldn't mind saving money on their electric bill during the winter.

Turning on the heater can lead to higher energy bills, but there are ways to stay warm and save some money at the same time. Conservation tips include adjusting ceiling fan blades downward to force heated air into living areas and keeping drapes and blinds open on sunny days.

David Collier of Oncor Electric Delivery also has some tips that will keep more money in your pockets.

"Change the filter so your unit's working to it's most efficiency. Look at your window caulking and that type of thing, those are the non expensive type things they can do. And then your thermostat settings. You can either use a set back thermostat or remember to turn it off when you're not home."
