Recycle your computers

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - While you may not be buying new cars, you may have recently bought a new computer, which means you'll probably need a way to dispose of your old p-c.

Goodwill Industries and Dell have teamed up to collect and recycle your unwanted computers. It's a program called "Reconnect Texas". The free recycling program allows the reuse of good computers, keeps pounds of computer equipment out of Texas landfills, and can help Goodwill put local individuals to work.

"This will put more people with disabilities to work. We can put somebody to take in the computers ; we can make sure we have somebody there that will sort the computers and put them in the right boxes for dell's environmental partner when they come to pick them up" says Nancy Bledsoe, teh Executive Director of Goodwill Industries.

If you want to participate, just take your computer and computer related equipment to the Lufkin, Diboll, or Nacogdoches Goodwill Stores. And not to worry, all those computers that can't be resold by Goodwill, will be properly disposed of by Dell. Beth Johnson, the Program Director of Dell's Take Back Program, is reassuring of that.

"We've got some guidelines that we've set forth to make sure that the equipment for example, no sensitive material will end up in a landfill and no waste will be sent to a developing country."

Local Goodwills are excepting all brands of computers.
