The Lumberjacks used touchdowns from three different tailbacks and two touchdown passes from quarterback Zeke Dixon to rout Southern Utah 52-6 before 5,384 fans at Homer Bryce Stadium Saturday evening.
SFA jumped out to an early 21-0 lead in the first quarter scoring on their second play from scrimmage when Tony Tompkins scored from 17-yards out to put SFA up, 7-0.
After forcing Southern Utah to go three and out, the 'Jacks scored on their next possession when Anthony Dingle scored from 13-yards out to put SFA in front by two scores. SFA capped off the first quarter barrage with a Gary Allen 65-yard touchdown run to make the score, 21-0. Allen saw his first action of the year in the contest, carrying the ball 12 times fro 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Three SFA quarterbacks, Dixon, Williams and Matt Williford combined to throw three touchdowns while completing 11 of 18 passes for 217 yards. Dixon was 4-7 for 63 yards and two scores, while Williams was 4-4 for 114 yards and one touchdown.
The 'Jacks open Southland Conference play next Saturday when they travel to Thibodaux, Louisiana to take on Nicholls State. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
