LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - 2009 is looking to be a good year for the Lufkin business community. Lufkin's economic development director says they are working on new several projects.

As of now, contract negotiations are still on the table for a company looking to buy the 50 thousand square foot building on Old Mill Road. Wehmeier hopes to have a contract signed by the end of this month.

Meanwhile, Loggins Culinary, located off loop 287 near Ellen Trout Zoo, will open in about 30 to 60 days. It is a regional East Texas company based out of Tyler that manufactures steak products for the restaurant and hotel industries. And more potential prospects are opening up for Lufkin.

President, CEO of Lufkin's Economic Development, Jim Wehmeier says, "We're still getting a lot of opportunities that we're working with people on. It's a strange time and difficult time to finance a lot of projects people are doing due diligence and we're working to trying to finalize site selection but it may take a little time to get projects finance. There's a lot of positive activity which is a good thing."

Wehmeier says there are some potential prospects interested in purchasing the Abitibi Building.

Loggins Culinary is expected to bring about 50 to 80 jobs this year and more than 300 jobs over a three to five time span.
