LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Onlookers stood by nervously watching as emergency crews sprang into action Thursday.  A two vehicle accident on Loop 287 near Old Mill Road injured both drivers. 

According to the preliminary police report, Marilla Wood of Lufkin was traveling northbound on Loop 287 when Nelson Grimes of Diboll pulled out of a private driveway, crossing the northbound lanes to make a left (southerly) turn onto Loop 287.  Police say he failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic.  The car Woods was driving collided broadside with the Grimes vehicle.

Grimes was taken by ambulance to Memorial hospital and was listed in stable condition.  His injuries were unknown.  Woods was taken by car to Memorial hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.  Both victims were treated and later released.

The accident happened shortly before noon.  Traffic had to be routed around the accident scene, but didn't appear to cause any major delays.
