VAN, TX (KTRE) - The quiet streets of Van were overflowing with support. It is estimated that close to 500 firefighters joined family and friends to pay tribute on Friday to one of their own, Cory Galloway.
Dozens of units from across the state, and firefighters from across the country, even Canada, lined the streets outside First Baptist Church in Van. Inside, they honored the life of fallen Kilgore firefighter, Cory Calloway who died earlier last week during a training exercise in Kilgore. But even in the wake of tragedy, some say the scene was much to be grateful for.
"It's a moving deal to see the number of firemen...the number of apparatus....the people here, simply to say thanks for the sacrifice," said Van fire cheif Wayne Horton.
"Firefighters go out of their way for everybody, so it's pretty good that they pull together like this for this one," said Debbie Veteto, a Van resident.
