Angelina County Man Goes on Trial for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

by Kirby Gibbs

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina County man, accused of beating two women while they rented a room at his home last summer, went to trial today.

Loyde Waggoner is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. One of his alleged victims, Susan Osborn, told the jury today that she brought her mentally ill niece into the home to stay the night, and heard her moaning, when she stepped outside.

When she re-entered the house, Waggoner allegedly hit her with a baseball bat. After that, she says she remembers being tied up, and seeing blood on her niece. Waggoner has not admitted to any crime, but has repeatedly apologized to Osborn.
