Local jury convicts man on assault charges

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - On Tuesday, Loyde Waggoner was found guilty of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for beating two women while they rented a room at his home last summer.

In the district attorney's closing arguments, he encouraged the jury to look at Waggoner's history of criminal behavior and pick a punishment that would protect society.

Waggoner's attorney told the jury that Waggoner still has hope for change as he gets older.

Loyde Waggoner will serve 60 years behind bars with a $10,000 fine for each count.
