Recruiters mine East Texas for D-I talent

On National Signing Day, things were busy at the 5A schools. John Tyler signed five, including Ricky Marshall who'll go to Texas A&M Kingsville to play football and also study electrical engineering.

"They said it was a hassle," Marshall said, "but I believe I can handle it."

Robert E. Lee signed eight players including twins Josh and Jordan Aubrey, who'll stay together at Stephen F. Austin.

"I wanted to be somewhere with my brother, and where I feel wanted." Josh said.

"We're together," Jordan said. "We're a team."

SFA also signed another pair of East Texans in Whitehouse quarterback Brady Attaway and Winnsboro's Michael Leaks.

East Texas was once again fertile ground for Division-I recruiters. Bullard's Charlie Moore signed with Oklahoma State, the first Panther ever to go D-I.

"To sign D-I out of Bullard is a pretty cool thing," Moore said. "To have all my friends here, that makes me feel kind of special."

Chapel Hill's Matthew Tucker signed with TCU, and Longview's Chris Knighton inked with Texas Tech. Sulphur Springs signed a record eight players today, including quarterback Tyrik Rollison to Auburn and Colton Nash to Arkansas.

"It just felt like home when I got there," Nash said. "I couldn't pass it up."

And the Lon Morris Bearcats have their first players. The first-year program signed five Tatum Eagles, three Gilmer Buckeyes, and Overton's Jacoba Gardner. Gardner became the first Overton Mustang to sign a scholarship in thirteen years.
