Lufkin goes to Austin

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Mayor, Jack Gorden, along with members of the Lufkin City Council, the Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Lufkin plan on talking with legislative commitees and staff of government officials tomorrow.

Todd Kassaw, chairman of the Lufkin Angelina County Chamber of Commerce tells us issues being discussed include water rights with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, funding for the state school as well as Angelina County public schools. Kassaw said their main reason for going is to be heard and seen in the capitol city.

"We want the legislature and folks in austin to know that we support them...but we also want them to hear what we have to say, so that our positions and our needs can be met as well," Kassaw said.

Kassaw said people of Angelina County have been heading down to Austin like this every year as long as he can remember.

East Texas News Nine's Holley Nees will bring us updates from Austin tomorrow.
