LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Market Hog Show started Day 4 at the Angelina County Youth Fair.  Excited participants, along with their not so excited hogs paraded around the open arena hoping to catch the judges' favor.

Top honors go to Chris Headley.  The Lufkin High School student and his Grand Champion Pig, "Semi," as in semi-truck says Chris stole the show.  Chris told East Texas News his winning strategy was just to keep "Semi" walking.  He said his goal was "just to make the sale," and winning the Grand Champion title exceeds his expectations by far.  Which is a bit surprising, given that Chris is the 2008 Grand Champion winner.  Evenso, he said the second time is just as sweet and he thanked his family and the community for their support.

Hudson High School student Kylee Wright and her pig Piggy Sue won the Reserve Champion Title.  Kylee says when she's in the ring she's focused and makes an extra effort to have fun while competing.  Her strategy paid off, she made it to the sale as a champion.

The annual Angelina County Youth Fair is one of the largest youth focused events in East Texas.  For 60 years young people with the support of their parents, schools and local businesses have been raising champion chickens, lambs, hogs, heifers, steers and baking desserts as part of the popular annual event.

Friday at 1:30 p.m. the Pee-Wee Show will be held.  That's where the younger competitors, not yet old enough for the big show, get a chance to show off their animal.  The Pee-Wee Show includes goats, lambs, hogs and rabbits.
