East Texas Youth rewarded for hard work

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Youth Fair came to an end on Friday night. The final event was the auction, which is what many feel is the most important and rewarding event.

"It's the end of their job. They spent months on preparing for this, and when they reach this point this is the climax of it," said R.V. Swor, buyer's pool coordinator.

Many of the award-winning livestock like cattle, goats, chickens and pigs were sold to the highest bidder. The money goes to the youth who showed them. It's a reward for all of their hard work, and many students use the money they earn as scholarships for college.

Swor said $6,000 was one of the highest bids of the evening. His favorite part of the youth fair is watching the students' faces when they are rewarded with money for their hard work. He looks forward to next year's fair.
