US 59 construction update

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Highway 59 construction project is continuing to progress.

The Texas Department of Transportaion have closed the southbound main lanes of US 59 down to one lane at Loop 287 and 59 S. However, they have opened a southbound frontage road and have also installed a temporary ramp to get back onto 59 from that road. All the construction going on now is to make traveling easier and familiar for motorist when they begin construction on the US 59 main lanes.

"What's gonna happen, it's gonna improve the mobility in the area and it's gonna get the traffic, in the end, it'll allow for a smoother and better traffic flow and it'll also increase safety" says Kathi White of TxDot of Lufkin.

Today Loop 87 and 59 South were scheduled to be closed from 8pm to 6 tomorrow morning, but that closure has been postponed until Thursday.
