Housing authorities prepare to receive economic stimulus funds

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Housing authorities across East Texas are working steadily to meet all the requirements to obtain economic stimulus monies. On Tuesday the Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated nearly 75% of its funding, or $10.1 billion.  The Nacogdoches Housing Authority is set to receive over $148,000.  Administrators are already negotiating with contractors for energy efficient improvements. Project approval must move swiftly. The federal government wants all the money to be obligated within a year. In Texas, 351 housing authorities received a total of $119,789,000.
