LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Unemployment rates jumped all over Deep East Texas in January, with Nacogdoches County and Angelina County rising 1 percent and .7 percent from December, respectively.
The 12-county area's unemployment rate is up to 7.3 percent, up from 6.2 percent in December and 5.5 percent a year ago, according to a report released from WorkForce Solutions-Deep East Texas.
Lufkin's unemployment rate increased to 5.7 percent in January, with 904 members of the work force out of jobs. The city of Nacogdoches saw their unemployment rate jump 1.1 percent from 4.5 percent in December.
San Augustine County's jobless rate nearly reached double figures, up to 9.3 percent, with 317 of the 3,424 members of the workforce unemployed.
Other counties provided from the report and their numbers: Houston (8.1, up from 7.2 percent), Jasper (8.7, up from 7.4 percent), Newton (9.7, up from 7.8 percent), Polk (8.6, up from 7.3 percent), Sabine (13.4, up from 12.1 percent), San Jacinto (7.5, up from 6 percent), Shelby (6.1, up from 5.2 percent), Trinity (7.6, up from 6.7 percent) and Tyler (8.5, up from from 7 percent).
