JASPER, TX (KTRE) - Jasper, Texas may be a long way from the big city, but Michael Sarver is bringing the small East Texas town a little closer to the Hollywood hills.

Sarver's pastor, Gary Marshall said, "Inside he's always had this real passion for singing and music."

A passion that landed him a spot on the American Idol stage.

"I'd catch him up here at the church a lot of times late at night after hours here practicing singing," Marshall said.

However, his friend said singing is only a part of Michael's life.

"If there's anything that he can do for you, he will break his back to do it.  He's all about his family," Chris Martin said.

This town is all about him.

"Michael, you're my boy, I love you, and I know you're going to do the best that you can do and no matter what happens, from this point out, you've already won to Jasper," Martin said.

Marshall said, "[The judges] talked about the likeability of Michael as he has that favor.  We think it's the favor of the Lord."

Favor that came through Wednesday night at the results show.
