San Augustine, Newton on to semis after Thursday night wins

Newton to try for back-to-back championships after win over Daingerfield

(KTRE) - Both Newton and San Augustine left little doubt on their way to victories Thursday night in their respective regional finals.

The Eagles beat the Daingerfield Tigers 79-12. At one point the game was 7-6 and that would be as close as it would get all night. The Eagles are looking for back-to-back state championships in 3A DII. They will play the winner of the East Bernard-Tidehaven game, which will be played on Friday night. Another win and they are back at AT&T Stadium.

The San Augustine Wolves will head to the state semi-finals for the second straight year after Thursday night’s win over Tenaha. San Augustine beat theTigers with a score of 43-17.

In 2017, a senior loaded team was defeated by Refugio in the semi-finals. San Augustine will face the winner of the face-off between Mason and Refugio. That game will be played on Friday at the Alamo Dome.
