NEWTON, TX (KTRE) - The Newton Eagles are flying high, with a 21-16 win over Canadian Thursday night.
Newton stepped onto the field at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, ready to win another state title.
Right out of the gate, Newton led the Canadian Wildcats 7-0.
Going into the second quarter, they gained another touchdown and extra point, which increased their lead to 14-0. However, they didn’t stop there; they gained more yardage at the end of the second quarter, and drove into the end zone again to finish the first half with a 21-0 lead.
Almost halfway into the third quarter, Newton got a safety, resulting in 2 points for the Wildcats. The Wildcats then scored another touchdown and was successful at the 2-point conversion.
Newton won the game 21-16. It was the first back-to-back state championships in school history.
