LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - A man was arrested after Livingston Police said he set a car on fire in the parking lot of a Walmart.
Erik Ulisses Rauda, 27, of Coldspring was arrested and charged with arson. His bond was set at $5000.
According to Livingston Police, on December 28, 2018, at approximately 4 p.m, they responded to the parking lot of a Walmart in regards to reports of a vehicle that had been set on fire.
When they arrived, the fire had already been extinguished by a Walmart employee and the suspect had fled the scene.
According to witnesses, they had seen a light skinned white or possibly Hispanic man in an older model white, four door vehicle stop and approach the unoccupied vehicle.
Witnesses said the man had a white bag in his hand and began squirting a liquid substance on the tire of the vehicle.
Witnesses than said the man laid the bag on the ground and squirted the liquid on the bag before setting the bag and the tire of the vehicle on fire along with the bottle of the liquid substance.The liquid used by the suspect was later recovered and discovered to be lighter fluid.
The investigation continued and it was found the suspect had purchased the lighter fluid at another supermarket the day before and was captured on security cameras making the purchase and driving the same older model white four door vehicle.
Police said the suspect was later identified as Rauda. The vehicle Rauda was driving was later located and matched the vehicle driven away from the scene and when the lighter fluid was purchased.
Rauda has since been released from jail.
