LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff’s Office will soon have a new tool to help them investigate crimes that require a different approach when it comes to interviewing victims.
On Tuesday, the Angelina County Commissioners Court approved a donation of furniture from Project Beloved. The donation will fully furnish a “soft interview room” at the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Greg Sanches says the room is designed to be a more comforting environment for victims and their families as well as witnesses to talk to law enforcement -- especially during investigations into sexual assaults and abuse.
“It’s real helpful in those situations because a lot of time you got young children involved. It makes it a lot easier, makes them more relaxed because instead of a sterile police-type interview room you have a room that’s much easier for them to talk in and they feel much more comfortable,” Sanches said.
He said law enforcement has changed and learned a lot about how to deal with those types of crimes which he added are reported more now than they were in the past.
The furniture from Project Beloved will not cost the county any money.
