NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - In honor of Black History Month, a fourth grader in Nacogdoches prepared a presentation that was given to the entire school, which was also translated by a friend for dual language students.
Destiny Chapman, 9, got up on stage Friday morning at Nettie Marshall Elementary and gave the full student body, kindergartners through fifth grade, a lesson highlighting some of the famous inventors and figures of Black History Month.
“I’ve always to wanted to see history of African Americans and know more about it,” Destiny said. “I’m thankful for the heroes in black history who have shaped us.”
Destiny’s mother and teachers said she came up with the idea by herself, and put the presentation together only with the help of a friend and fellow classmate, who translated for spanish-speaking students.
