Shooting leaves 2 injured during Nacogdoches Easter event

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches Police Department said two people were injured after a shooting at an Easter event.

According to police, on April 21, around 8:43 pm, officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to the 800 block of Ritchie Street in reference to a gunshot victim. There was a large gathering of people for the Easter Holiday at the park.

When police officers arrived they located two gunshot victims. One of the victims was identified to be Roberta Hewitt, 27, of Nacogdoches. Police said Hewitt was suffering what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her neck and was taken to a nearby hospital and was later life-flighted to a hospital in Tyler. At this time, Hewitt’s condition is believed to be critical.

The other victim was a juvenile and sustained a minor injury and was treated and released from the hospital. The information at this time is that there were multiple shots fired from a vehicle toward the gathering in the park. There have been no arrests made at this time. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
