Hudson takes game 1 of series against Palestine 8-1

HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - The Hudson Hornets baseball team took a 1-0 series lead over Palestine in the Bi-District Round of the playoffs over Palestine on Thursday night.

Game one went scoreless for three innings but then the Hudson bats came alive scoring 1 run in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth.

“We hit a few hard balls early that they were able to catch,” Hudson head coach Glen Kimble said. We then were able to get the hits to go our way. The first round is tough. The kids are nervous and anxious. They have to feel their way through it."

The team would not slow down at the start of game 2 with the hornets bringing in run on the second batter of the game. Just a minute later though lighting would enter the area and both teams headed for the exits. Game 2 will continue on Friday night at 6 pm from Hudson with the Hornets up 1-0 in the top of the first.

“We came out hot,” Kimble said. “We wish we didn’t stop but that’s the way it goes. I feel like we could have continued to be hot at the plate. The weather, it is a big problem with the storms and we have testing next week so we cant play on those days. We are lucky to have this turf field. Before we would sometimes have to travel 6-8 hours away to get out of these rain storms. Now we can stay at home and have teams come here so we can get the games in."

Details for a possible game 3 have not been decided.
