Woman still shaken up following armed robbery in Lufkin

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Fighting back tears, Cynthia Martinez spoke in shaky voice about the armed robbery that happened on Saturday.

“It was scary, and it was and is scary coming in because I have to be here for an hour before someone else comes in,” Martinez said. “They’re wearing a hoodie, and I didn’t think anything of it because it was raining outside.”

Martinez said an armed robber walked into the Remco Insurance building on Timberland Drive just minutes before closing time on Saturday.

“He put me on the floor. Like once he got the money, he told me to lay on the floor, and once I laid on the floor, he put my arms behind my back, and he zip tied them really hard," Martinez said. “I don’t really know how I got my hands out to call 911.p

Lufkin police said they believe the suspect entered the business with a handgun, restrained Martinez, and placed tape over her mouth demanding money from the register.

As she lay on the floor, the mother of two young kids feared for her life.

“He told me to just shut up and not scream. And whenever he said that, he put tape over my mouth," Martinez said. “So I was thinking that he was going to shoot me, and I’m probably going to die by myself because, I mean, I was the only one here, and we were about to be closed, and then he locked the door on his way out.”

Martinez said all she wants is the suspect found and arrested.

“Why is it going to be so easy for him to get money like that when everybody else works for their money,” Martinez said.

Police said the suspect is a black male about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall.

They say he may be driving a maroon Ford pickup with an extended cab.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lufkin Police Department at (936) 633-0356 or Crime Stoppers at 639-TIPS if they wish to remain anonymous.
