POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A medical helicopter airlifted a man to a Houston hospital for treatment of his injuries after an 18-wheeler crossed the center median on U.S. Highway 59 south of Livingston and struck a passenger vehicle Monday.
According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to and investigated the two-vehicle wreck, which occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Monday.
The preliminary crash report shows that Tom Moravee, 49, of Pasadena, was driving a 2016 Freightliner truck tractor-semi-trailer rig north in the inside lane of Highway 59 when the wreck occurred.
Investigators believe the truck tractor’s left front tire blew out and causing the truck to travel through the center median and into the northbound lanes of traffic, where it struck a 2019 Volkswagen passenger car driven by Steven West, 67, of Humble.
A medical helicopter transported West to a Houston hospital for treatment of his injuries, the press release stated. The passenger in West’s car was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial in Livingston.
Moravee was not injured in the wreck.
The crash is still under investigation.
