Two East Texas golfers lead after day 1 of state golf tournaments

AUSTIN, Texas (KTRE) - Central’s Cameron Hubbard is just 18 holes away from becoming a state champion.

On Day 1 of the UIL 3A Golf State Tournament, Hubbard shot a 73. He i joined by Columbus’ Carson Way at the top of the field.

Hubbard’s teammate Jace Spencer carded a 77 to be just 4 shots back.

With Hubbard and Spencer leading the way the Bulldogs are in third place on the team side with a score of 334. Columbus leads the overall team competition with a score of 313.

Grapeland, the defending 2A state champions have some serious ground to make up. Currently the Sandies are in 6th place with a team score of 354. They are tied with Douglass. The 2A leader after Day 1 is Vega with a score of 320.

Douglass’ Trevor Roquemore leads the individual competition with a score of 70. Lats year’s champion, Grapleand’s Rick Frauenberger is 5 shots back at 75.
