COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KTRE) - With their backs against the wall for a second night, the Lufkin Majors All-Stars were able to get another victory and force a winner-take-all championship game in the Texas East Section 1 majors Tournament on Thursday.

Lufkin beat Western Hills 7-2 to force the game. The win comes after they lost to Western Hills 7-0 in round 2.

“Our backs were against the all,” Manager Bud Maddux said. “We swung the bats and hit the baseball.”

Maddux credited a lot of the success in the win to Colt Larson. Larson pitched a complete game and on offense had two home runs. Maddus is hoping for a similar attitude by the team tomorrow in the third matchup with Western Hills.

“We are counting on it,” Maddux said. “That is our plan. If we come out hitting tonight we should be okay. I don’t know why we wouldn’t want to do that.”

The result was the complete opposite the second time around against the Austin-area team.

“We didn’t go up with the approach we needed at the plate,” Maddux said. “We swung outside of the strike zone and didn’t do our approach like we have our last two games. We need to go out and and play our game. Nerves should not become an issue. We should go out and play like we should."

Lufkin appears to have their momentum but now all things are equal. There is no second chances. The season rides on the game Thursday night for both Lufkin and Western Hills.

“We are not going to get cocky," Maddux said. "We are getting up at 10 am and getting ready like we do everyday. We are not going to be full of ourselves and lay around. We have to get this thing done on the field. western Hills is coming out with the same attitude.”

The game is set to start at 7 pm from the College Station Little League complex.
