HUNTINGTON, Texas (KTRE) - School supplies will be provided for students at Huntington ISD this fall.
Huntington ISD is once again providing their students with all the necessary school supplies.
On the district’s website, the supply list shows all parents need to provide is a backpack and for the middle and high schoolers add on a binder.
“We know that sometimes it can be a burden on parents and so we wanted to help them out and provide that for our kids,” said Dianne Holbrook, assistant superintendent of HISD.
Holbrook said providing school supplies helps set the child up to succeed at the start of the school year.
“At this point we want to help parents as much as we can so that we can develop these children to the best of their ability and so that’s what we’re doing. We are trying to build a partnership, we are trying to work with our community, work with our parents and help them in any way that we can,” Holbrook said.
Close to $40,000 in supplies are paid for with federal funds through the Every Student Succeeds Act. School districts serving a large population of low income students are eligible for extra funding.
High School Principal and parent Shane Stover said being able to provide the supplies gives a equal and fair opportunity to each child.
“Research and education shows that the first day of school, the first impression, the first week is extremely valuable and you can’t get that time back,” Stover said.
School starts on August 15. The district will buy all the supplies by first week of August.
