LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - The city of Lufkin’s American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting a Wreath Across America program on December 14th, 2019.
The Lufkin community organization will be receiving 500 live wreaths shipped directly from Maine, which is where the program originated. The wreaths have all been sponsored by individuals and different organizations in the community.
"For every wreath that is sponsored for 15 dollars, five dollars comes back to the American Legion Auxiliary. That five dollars will go towards grave marker flags that are put out at a number of different cemeteries on Memorial Day,” said Rita Redd, unit president of the ALA. “Part of that goes to our education fund for scholarships for children of veterans.”
The Wreaths Across America program will be held on December 14th at 11 a.m., at the Garden of Memories in Lufkin. After the ceremony, people will get to lay the wreaths on the veterans’ grave, while saying their names.
