Start your new year with nature with these hikes at Palo Duro Canyon and Caprock Canyons

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - You can start your new year with nature by going on one of the hikes at Palo Duro Canyon State Park and Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway.

On New Year’s Eve, Palo Duro Canyon State Park is hosting a Hoppin’ John’s Midnight Hike. The hike starts at 11:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and lasts until 1:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Hikers will meet at the Mack Dick Pavilion at the bottom of the big hill before hiking the Kiowa Trail.

Hikers are asked to wear warm clothes, sturdy hiking boots and bring a flashlight.

On New Year’s Day, Palo Duro Canyon State park is hosting a Mindfulness First Day Hike. From 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., you can practice being present and open to your senses.

Hikers will meet at the Mack Dick Parking lot.

Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway is hosting a First Day Hike from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

Hikers are asked to meet at the Upper South Prong Trailhead and bring comfortable hiking shoes and water.
