LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - On Friday, Lufkin ISD launched a new educational resource called ‘Lukfin Learns-at-Home’. It is an online program created for students and parents to continue their studies while unable to attend school due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“You log onto the website and there are are specific tabs for what grade your child is in. From that, you can pick what that specific curriculum is,” Becky Butler, the 8th grade U.S. History teacher at Lufkin Middle School said.

Once there, parents will find activities and assignments that their students can complete online. For those with no internet access, Lufkin ISD has a plan in place for that also.

"They can come to any school. Pick up times are set up for people to get packets. The same things that are offered online will be in paper form,” Butler expressed.

Monique Stevenson has two daughters that she will be working with on ‘Lufkin Learns at Home’. One of her daughters’ struggles with dyslexia. Stevenson says the conference call option on the Lufkin Learns website will be helpful.

“So, if there is something that my child does not understand at home, they have periods throughout the day where they can give them a call and talk to the teacher,” Stevenson added.

Both parents say the Lufkin Learns at Home program will help keep an open line of communication between students, parents and teachers.

“Just be flexible and be forgiving, because it’s not perfect and we have a lot to do in a very short amount of time,” Butler said.
