WATCH: Congressman Gohmert confirms COVID-19 diagnosis, says he’s ‘totally asymptomatic'
Gohmert disputes claims that he hasn't been wearing a mask
WASHINGTON (KLTV/KTRE) - East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert has tested positive for coronavirus.
In an interview on East Texas Now, Gohmert said he was tested because he was about to join President Trump on a trip to Texas. He took one test, which tested positive, then took a second test, which was more invasive, which also tested positive.
“I’m grateful the president invited me to West Texas,” Gohmert said. “It’s very important to know that you got it so you can take precautions.”
Gohmert said despite reports to the contrary, he has been wearing a mask for the last 10 days.
“I wonder if I injected the virus into my mask when I was moving,” Gohmert said.
Gohmert said it is “critical for everyone who has it to wear a mask.”
“As soon as I get off this interview, I will be putting my mask on,” Gohmert said.
Because he is not allowed to take commercial transportation, Gohmert said he plans to drive home to East Texas. He said doctors at the White House and the U.S. Capitol have recommended a 10-day quarantine.
