NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The SFA Ladyjacks roared out to a 59-point win to open conference play and hope that snowballs into more dominance in their final 15 games of the season.
The ladies walked out of the coliseum on Saturday with a 88-29 win over New Orleans. The team improved to 9-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference.
“Coming off of a 59-point conference win we could possibly not prepare the way we should,” head coach Mark Kellogg said. “I hope after one conference game we do not start tooting our horn too much. We have a veteran group that has been through this so hopefully we can rely on them.”
Last time out the team was led by Alyssa Mayfield. The senior from Tyler is averaging just under 10 points a game and against New Orleans tallied 15 points. It was her second best performance of the season. Her best came in the December win at Auburn where she had 19 points. The senior has hit double digit points five times this season.
“She is just relaxed. She is putting up the right shots. She is putting it on the floor if someone takes away her shot. She is a senior that has been in our program so the game should be slow to her. She is reacting. The game has been slow. We know she is a capable scorer for us, but if she has an off night then we know we have others like Avery Brittingham who plays her position, or Zya, or Stephanie or Marrisa. "
SFA will tip off against TAMUCC on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. inside the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
