JACKSONVILLE, Texas (KTRE) - Jacksonville Independent School District introduced a plan for in-district COVID-19 testing this week.

As of Monday, the district tested about 90 employees across all three campuses using the 15-minute rapid antigen test.

Jacksonville ISD Police Chief Bill Avera tells us that testing is going well so far.

Avera says the district’s positivity rate is low, which is good because this is how they are able to keep school open.

“We have begun to survey our employees about their interest in the vaccine. We have approximately 800 employees. I have had about 250 respond so far. It is about a 50/50 split about those that want the COVID-19 vaccine, either don’t want it or are undecided,” Avera explained.

Avera says the district has not rolled out the student testing program at this time.

They do plan on announcing more details in next few weeks.
