Lufkin Police Department releases names of victims, suspect in stabbing incident at convenience store

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Two people were stabbed on Friday night in Lufkin - one of them a police officer.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Friday night at Lucky’s convenience store on John Reddit Drive.

Lufkin police say they responded to a welfare concern involving 48-year-old Martha Hageon and Alejandro Sanabria, her adult son.

When officers entered the store, Snanbria attacked his mother with a large knife, critically injuring her. As officers tried to stop the attack, Sanabria stabbed 29-year-old Lufkin police officer Gerardo Salinas.

“Our officer is still hospitalized. They are monitoring him for a possible lung injury. We are continuing to keep an eye on that,” said Jessica Pebsworth, a spokeswoman for the Lufkin Police Department. We believe that he will make a full recovery. We just hope that the woman recovers. She is in extremely critical condition. We ask that the community pray for her family and the families of everyone involved.”

Sanabria was taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond has been set at a collective $6 million dollars.

(PREVIOUS) A Lufkin police officer and a woman were injured during a stabbing incident that occurred at a convenience store late Friday when LPD officers tried to break up an altercation between a mother and her adult son.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to the Angelina County Jail.

Alejandro Sanabria, 26, of Lufkin, is still being held in the county jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His collective bond amount has been set at $6 million.

According to a press release, Lufkin police officers, including Officer Gerardo Salinas, 29, responded to a welfare concern involving Martha Hageon, 48, and Sanabria, her adult son. The LPD officers located Hageon inside the Lucky’s convenience store located at 1707 N. John Redditt Drive a short time later.

When the LPD officers entered the store, Sanabrias attacked his mother with a large knife, critically injuring her, the press release stated. Then as the officers tried to stop the attack, Sanabria stabbed Salinas in the side.

Hageon and Salinas were both taken to a local hospital. Hageon remains in extremely critical condition, and the LPD officer is still hospitalized and being monitored for a lung injury.

Pebsworth also said that the Lufkin Police department wants to thank the bystanders and the Lucky’s clerks for their quick action in coming to the aid of Hageon and Salinas.

“Add to that list our brothers and sisters at Lufkin Fire Department for their quick response and continued support,” Pebsworth said.
