CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Two children reported missing Monday night from Cherokee County have been found and a suspect is in custody charged with kidnapping.

Jesse Ray Schmidt, 32, is charged with kidnapping. He is being held in the Cherokee County Jail on a $500,000 bond, more charges are pending according to Sheriff Brent Dickson.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, two children ages 11 and 10 were located with Jesse Ray Schmidt in Kilgore by the Kilgore Police Department. The children have since been released into the custody of Child Protective Services.

Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson said the suspect was living with the family, though it is not known why he took the children or where he planned to go.
