LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Two students at Lufkin High School are starting the year off on the right note.

Lufkin ISD has juniors Alyssa Kitchens and Allie Pierce advancing to state competitions for their music skills. Kitchens made all-state on clarinet while Pierce is all-state for choir. Both have spent hours of classes, rehearsals, and at-home practice on their craft, and have been practicing their music for this specific competition since the summer. The two said there would be little time for rest before the next round, but that they are proud to represent the musical talent of Lufkin.

“Being able to go up there with all the huge fine arts schools and say I’m Lufkin, that’s really amazing for me,” said Pierce.

“I mean for me, our band program is really great and I know we have a lot of musicians who are really good and so it feels good to be able to represent them well,” said Kitchens.

Lufkin ISD’s Director of Bands, George Little, said this accomplishment was a big deal, and that thousands start the process, but few make it as far as Allie and Alyssa.
