Repairs completed on portion of broken fire hydrants in Hudson
ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Some fire hydrants in Hudson that were broken and contributed to the loss of an area church are now fixed and back in service.
Hudson Water Supply had around 10 fire hydrants out of service at the beginning of June. One of these hydrants was near Triumphant Life Church and contributed to its total loss when it caught fire June 30.
President of Hudson Water Supply James Young said a company came over an hour away to conduct the repairs.
“They went to repairing the fire hydrants and all of them are repaired but three. We had found some extra ones that were not on our list, and they are working on those at the present time,” Young said.
Young said homeowners are the ones who put in the hydrants, and after a year Hudson Water is responsible for maintaining them.
“According to tariffs after one year we maintain them from that point on. So yes, we will continue to maintain them,” Young said.
Young confirmed Hudson Water Supply is paying for all the repairs to the hydrants.
“Hudson Water is paying to have them all repaired. They are paying for the contract to have these people come and inspect them once a year and that’s all on Hudson Water, individuals and customers are not billed for that,” Young said.
Young said it’s been a process, but they are getting all the hydrants back in service.
“It’s been about three weeks and we have them all fixed but about three. So we’re still going around checking,” Young said.
Hudson Water Supply is also asking residents that they serve to limit their water use at this time.
